EACH SEGMENT OF THE RETREAT HAS A DIFFERENT FOCUS

Segment One:  The topic is breaking denial and re-visioning aging from a deeper, spiritual perspective for yourself.  The questions/topics will include:

  • Appreciating your questions and concerns not as problems to be solved, but as the heart of the spiritual journey.
  • Setting an intention worthy of you:  to what are you being called?
  • What are your spiritual strengths and weaknesses?  Take inventory of your progress towards spiritual maturity in the areas of preparations for the future, your ambition,  love and relationships including parenting grown children, beauty, health, purpose and meaning and coming to terms with loss and mortality.
  • What is a psychologically and spiritually healthy vision of aging?  Explore how you can avoid tending towards either romanticizing or reviling growing older.
  • How will your personal spiritual and religious history translate into the future?  Discover in what ways you have been in denial, and to what you are awakening.

Segment Two:  The topic is taking a deep dive into your heart to construct a blueprint for this new stage of your life that is guaranteed to deliver on its promise.

  • What qualities did you neglect in the first half of your life that you are now free to develop?  Let go of who you once were to re-energize your vision of who you are becoming.
  • Build an inspired plan for the future including your aspirations, relationships, practical decisions and well-being.
  • Learn to solve problems and make decisions by receiving rather than doing.
  • Discover the importance of discernment: which voices are worthy of your trust, both external and internal?  How do you know when it’s God who is  calling you?
  • Once you know what you want your life to be like decades from now, what should you be doing ten years, five years, one      year, six months, one month and one week from now?  And most importantly, what should you be doing next?

Segment Three:  The topic is addressing your ultimate concerns regarding aging, loss and mortality in order to find freedom and peace.

  • What does it mean to be free—especially when thinking about facing physical and cognitive losses, connections to those for whom you care, the erosion of social status and ultimately life itself?  Identify in what ways have you already let go as well as where are you still holding on.
  • In what ways can regret, shame, guilt and fear be given a constructive role to play?  Heal your unfinished business to discover that you are not only growing older, you are growing whole.
  • Explore how the dynamic tension between accepting marginalization and fighting against it is playing out in your life.  See how the stereotypes of aging are subtly holding you back from fulfilling your true human potential.
  • What is a spiritually/psychologically healthy response to those times when we feel God has deserted us?  Face and address your greatest fears and concerns by going deeper.
  • Celebrate the many ways that growing older is enabling you to become more fully yourself.

One-on-One Spiritual Counseling

In addition to leading the Fierce with Age Retreat, Dr. Orsborn is available to do spiritual counseling.  We will set a mutually convenient time to talk, Skype or meet face-to-face in Nashville, Tennessee at the Old Stone House at River Bend.

Deeply respectful of your own spiritual and/or religious orientation, a sacred space is created in which you become ever more receptive to tapping divine guidance as well as by tuning into your own inner wisdom.  You have the opportunity to express your deepest yearnings and aspirations within the context of a supportive and non-judgmental interfaith spiritual counseling relationship. Together, we can discern in what ways your spirit is being called forth.

Spiritual counseling can help you break through blockages, access deeper levels of clarity and receive insights and direction beyond your conscious knowing.  You will come to understand the true meaning of what it means to not only be growing old, but to be growing whole.

Kathy Sporre, director of the Fergus Falls Senior Citizens Program, Inc. and champion of the International Council on Active Aging’s “Changing the Way We Age®” Campaign

“Dr. Orsborn’s retreat opened up a stream of consciousness that I take along with me as I engage people who are aging or caring for the aging. Through the exercises we, each from our own perspective, could make peace with our fears of growing older as they expressed and relived what was meaningful in their lives.”

Caryn Isaacs, Patient Advocate

“Thank you, Carol, for opening your beautiful home retreat and your kind heart last Saturday to those of us who were blessed to be a part of the first Fierce With Age retreat on the river. The weather was cooperative, the space was peaceful and inspiring, and the eclectic and responsive group of participants supported and enhanced the spiritual process you shared with us. It was a good day that created memories and insights that will resonate in my being as I continue to face a future Fierce With Age.”

Sue Schleicher Shoemaker, Educator

“Thanks so much for sharing your philosophy and point of view through Fierce with Age.  I’m getting so much out of the online retreat!  You ask us to think of someone who we believe represents what it means to be aging well.  I immediately thought of my vibrant mother who taught me that “life is what you make of it.” Despite the challenges she faced late in life, she was fierce with age, too.  She would have loved your blog!”

Cheri Halsema,
Fine Art America

“Dr. Orsborn’s Fierce with Age retreat starts us on the process of walking a path where there is yet no map.  Innovative and fearless…reminding us to be gentle with ourselves as we blunder and stumble and pick ourselves up to keep asking questions.”

Liza, Retiree, Portland, Oregon

All I can say is “wow”.  This retreat exceeded my expectations and I am eager to help spread the word to my friends.”

Barbara Meltzer, Marketing Expert
